FAQ

Pricing

What makes pricing vary so much from one translation service provider to another?

  • Generally speaking, a quote will be based on word count, urgency, language pair and domain.
  • The rate can be project-based (fixed rate), hourly or per word.

Free online software such as DeepL, Google, Copilot and ChatGPT are doing a great job translating my documents. Why should I hire a professional translator?

  • Those tools can be useful to translate simple and non-confidential texts.
  • Professional translators know when it’s appropriate to use certain tools and how to use them safely.
  • The performance of those tools is limited in technical domains such as medical, legal, technical and insurance.
  • Despite the progress of AI, your company is taking big risks when using free and paid translation software.
  • You must keep in mind that machines do not think and that your content might be used to train AI models.
  • Like lawyers, engineers, and other professionals, OTTIAQ certified translators must comply with a strict Code of ethics.
  • Data security and privacy are major concerns when it comes to using free and paid applications.
  • Free machine translation engines do not guarantee the confidentiality of the data you enter.
  • The data you input can be reused to train the machine or produce other translations.
  • The current lack of regulation means that your data and content could be shared without your knowledge or consent.
  • An inaccurate translation of your company’s strategic content can damage its reputation and revenue.
  • If translated incorrectly, documents of a technical or sensitive nature could cause serious physical, financial, legal or reputational harm.
